Will the master tutor, Dr. Kevin L. Powell, contact my student’s teachers?

Yes, if given permission by a parent. I like to work closely with the student’s teacher in order to get the best result for your student. Click “Academic Permission Form” and print it out. Complete the form and give it to each teacher who should be contacted by the tutor.

Question: What is a typical Tutor Charlotte tutoring session like?

During the tutoring session, we ask the student the following questions and tutor what the student needs:

1. Do you have any homework that I can help you with today?

2. Do you have a quiz, test, or exam this week I can help you prepare for?

3. Do you need a lesson on a particular concept your teacher taught that you did not understand?

4. What did your Language Arts teacher, math teacher, and or science teacher teach you today?

Question: Do I need a desktop computer for my student?

Yes, your student must have access to the internet, speakers on their computer, and I recommend access to a working printer to printout academic work. I recommend a desktop computer over Ipads and other devices.

Do you do academic assessments of your students?

Yes, my students do continuous academic assessments in math and English grammar to determine the student’s skills in the subject being tutored. The continuous academic assessment allows us to adjust your student’s academic tutoring to fit their needs.

Question: Do you tutor ELA?

After a careful assessment of the student’s English grammar skills, the student is taught by the master tutor, Dr. Kevin L. Powell, using the Glencoe Language Arts English Grammar and Composition Handbook with complete assessment questions in each chapter based on the reading level of the student. In addition, the student will begin studying and incorporating 5,014 SAT vocabulary words for reading comprehension. The student is continuously tested to measure their academic progress. The student is taught English composition (writing and structure).

  • 4th Grade English Grammar and Composition Handbook

  • 5th Grade English Grammar and Composition Handbook

  • 6th Grade English Grammar and Composition Handbook

  • 7th Grade English Grammar and Composition Handbook

  • 8th Grade English Grammar and Composition Handbook

Dr. Kevin L. Powell tutors and teaches 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th mathematics strictly from the textbooks, and remedial 3rd grade Saxon math.

My students practice cursive handwriting.

  7. The new schedule is published on Mondays between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. EST. The master tutor will email and or text the schedule to the student and or parent each Monday.

  8. Check the schedule first! It will be updated throughout the week as new appointment requests come in.

  9. You may have only one tutoring session per 24 hours with the exception for the "Blue Auditorium Classrooms."

  10. There is no tutoring on public Federal holidays.

  11. Appointment requests for 1 on 1 online tutoring are on a first come first served basis, but are also given based on the difficulty of the subject matter, the student's previous willingness to do Tutor Charlotte homework, study habits, and academic needs. When making your appointment requests, it is a request. This does not mean you are on the schedule for academic tutoring. You are requesting the master tutor give time to the student.

  12. Online one on one tutoring time is allotted based on our formula which calculates the amount of academic work done by the student to improve their academic grades in public or private school, student’s academic needs, the student’s program, and availability on the schedule.

  13. Academic work can the required of the student as a prerequisite for an appointment request approval for one on one online tutoring. If academic work is required, then the student must complete the academic work in order for the appointment requests to be approved. If academic work is required of the student, and the student does not complete the required academic work, the master tutor can deny the appointment requests, or approved the appointment requests by allowing the student into a classroom with up to 3 other students.

  14. If a parent or student request a time already taking by another student, it is the sole discretion of the master tutor to decide if he will give academic instruction to more than one student at the same time. In most cases, the master tutor will either reject the appointment requests, move the appointment requests to the next available slot on the schedule, or accept the appointment requests.

  15. Online tutoring sessions can be as little 5 minutes up to 120 minutes per session and the duration of the tutoring session is at the sole discretion of the master tutor.

  16. Online tutoring is Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. EST, Saturday, and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. EST. during the school year August 27th to June 12th. Online tutoring is Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. EST, Saturday, and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. EST. during the summer June 12th to August 26th.

  17. The maximum number of one on one online tutoring sessions given to a student in a 30-day period depends on the program and the curriculum chosen by the parent for the student, and the financial funds available to Tutor Charlotte each quarter.

    • Program I students receive 4 thirty minute online tutoring sessions per week.

    • Program II students receive 4 thirty minute online tutoring sessions per week.

    • Program III students receive 6 thirty minute online tutoring sessions per week.

    • Program IV students receive 6 thirty minute online tutoring sessions per week.

  19. The master tutor will call the student for his or her online appointment within three minutes of the published appointment time when the student makes an appointment request, and the appointment request is approved and published.

  20. If the master tutor does not call you within three minutes of your online appointment time or you fail to answer the phone call for any reason, call the master tutor no more than 7 minutes after your appointment time.

  21. Your tutoring session is considered a missed session 7 minutes after your appointment time if you do not call the master tutor for your online appointment or appear in the classroom.

  22. If the master tutor misses a tutoring session or if Tutor Charlotte is closed due to technical problems, internet or website being down, or electricity outage, Tutor Charlotte will make up the tutoring session by moving the due date for the next invoice on the student’s account allowing the student to re-capture a missed tutoring session, or the student will be given a make-up session at an agreed time.

  23. If the master tutor puts a student on the schedule without an appointment request, the master tutor cannot call the student for the appointment. But the master tutor may email the proposed schedule to the student and or parent.

  24. A minimum of 2 hours per week (four 30-minute tutoring sessions) in online tutoring must be completed by every student unless there is an exemption for these reasons:
