I contracted for 20 sessions to see how it went before committing to more, then I was told they still need to "learn" my child. Ridiculous! Dear Parent(s), I hear you loud and clear about your students attending public schools, and I am here to help!
Complaints About 7th Grade Math Teachers in Public Schools.
Instructional Quality for Advanced Learners: Parents of high-achieving 7th graders frequently complain about a perceived lack of rigor. In late 2025, CMS board members noted concerns that some students are "lost" in deep conceptual math or are being taught by teachers who rely too heavily on group-based "discovery" methods rather than direct instruction. But Dr. Kevin L. Powell and Tutor Charlotte teaches math at the student’s pace of learning and rigor.
Class Size and Management: Seventh grade is often cited as a peak year for behavioral disruptions. Parents report that large class sizes (sometimes exceeding 30–35 students) make it difficult for teachers to provide the individual support needed for abstract concepts like rational number operations and linear equations. But Dr. Kevin L. Powell and Tutor Charlotte gives students 1 on 1 attention and focuses on your student’s individual learning needs.
Stability and Vacancies: Staffing challenges remain a top concern. Many 7th-grade math classrooms are led by long-term substitutes or teachers on "alternative license pathways" due to ongoing vacancies in the 2025–2026 school year. But Dr. Kevin L. Powell and Tutor Charlotte have 30 years of experience teaching students and your student will get live 1 on 1 tutoring with Dr. Powell.
Complaints About 7th Grade Math Curriculum in Public Schools.
Controversial Math Tracks: A major point of contention in 2026 is the district’s move to limit high school-level math (Math 1) for younger students. Parents argue that preventing advanced 7th graders from moving into Math 1 or Math 2 creates "bottlenecks" that limit their college competitiveness. But Dr. Kevin L. Powell and Tutor Charlotte will teach your 7th Grader Math I, Math III, Math III, Precalculus, Geometry, and Calculus.
Common Core Confusion: Parents continue to express frustration with the "Illustrative Mathematics" or "EnVision" materials, noting that the methods used for teaching ratios and proportional relationships are counterintuitive to how they learned math, making it nearly impossible to help with homework. But Dr. Kevin L. Powell and Tutor Charlotte know the material very well and will help your student with homework 7 days a week.
This is a specialized service led by Dr. Kevin L. Powell, focusing on high-level mathematics, physics, and personalized online instruction.
