Compare our Tutor Charlotte flat price $170.00 a month for 28 to 30 hours of tutoring to our competitor Huntington Learning Center. Their customer complained “They provide a diagnostic and then tell you they will need 80 sessions with your child, at $70-$85 per hour. I contracted for 20 sessions to see how it went before committing to more, then I was told they still need to "learn" my child. Ridiculous! My daughter was bored after 10 sessions, we stopped after 13 and I asked for a credit for the unused hours.”
What a master tutor will do as your student’s tutor?
Be a private teacher to your student and give them one on one attention to their learning needs for Math II.
North Carolina Math II is the second course in the state’s integrated mathematics sequence. Building on the foundations established in Math 1, this course shifts focus toward quadratic functions, geometry transformations, and right-triangle trigonometry to prepare students for college and career readiness.
Core Academic Focus
The curriculum is organized around several key mathematical themes:
Algebra & Functions: Students advance their understanding of functions by adding quadratic, square root, and inverse variation families. They learn to solve complex equations, perform operations on polynomials (adding, subtracting, and multiplying), and work with rational exponents and radical expressions.
Geometry: A significant portion of the course is dedicated to geometric reasoning and proof. Key topics include congruence and similarity, rigid motion transformations (translations, reflections, rotations), and dilations. Students also study the properties of triangles and other planar figures.
Trigonometry: Math 2 introduces right-triangle trigonometry, where students define trigonometric ratios (sine, cosine, tangent) and apply them to solve real-world problems involving triangles.
Statistics & Probability: The course covers conditional probability, independence, and the rules of probability to analyze data and compute the likelihood of compound events.

Question: What is a typical Tutor Charlotte tutoring session like?
During the tutoring session, we ask the student the following questions and tutor what the student needs:
1. Do you have any homework that I can help you with today?
2. Do you have a quiz, test, or exam this week I can help you prepare for?
3. Do you need a lesson on a particular concept your teacher taught that you did not understand?
4. What did your math teacher teach you today?
Question: Do I need a desktop computer for my student?
Yes, your student must have access to the internet, speakers on their computer, and I recommend access to a working printer to printout academic work. I recommend a desktop computer over Ipads and other devices.
Do you do academic assessments of your students?
Yes, my students do continuous academic assessments in math and English grammar to determine the student’s skills in the subject being tutored. The continuous academic assessment allows us to adjust your student’s academic tutoring to fit their needs.
Question: Do you tutor ELA?
After a careful assessment of the student’s English grammar skills, the student is taught by the master tutor, Dr. Kevin L. Powell, using the Glencoe Language Arts English Grammar and Composition Handbook with complete assessment questions in each chapter based on the reading level of the student. In addition, the student will begin studying and incorporating 5,014 SAT vocabulary words for reading comprehension. The student is continuously tested to measure their academic progress. The student is taught English composition (writing and structure).

Dr. Kevin L. Powell tutors and teaches mathematics, English Grammar, history, and science strictly from the textbooks.
In 2026, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) NC Math 2 curriculum is aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS). The district uses an open-source, three-year high school math series developed with Coherent Math, which is equity-driven and builds upon the Illustrative Mathematics framework.
Core Content Domains
NC Math 2 continues the progression from Math 1, focusing on quadratic, radical, and trigonometric functions alongside geometric reasoning.
Algebra: Students extend their work with quadratic equations, including solving those with complex solutions and using the "completing the square" method to rewrite equations in vertex form.
Functions: The curriculum introduces radical and inverse variation functions. Students explore the characteristics and behaviors of quadratic functions compared to the linear and exponential relationships learned in Math 1.
Number and Quantity: Students extend the laws of exponents to include rational exponents and learn to rewrite radical expressions in equivalent forms. Complex numbers are also introduced to solve quadratic equations that do not have real solutions.
Geometry: A major focus is on similarity, congruence, and right triangle trigonometry. Students use transformations (dilations) to understand similarity and apply the Pythagorean Theorem to find relationships in right triangles.
Statistics and Probability: Students explore the link between probability and data through conditional probability and counting methods to evaluate and make decisions.
Graduation and Placement Requirements
Mandatory Credit: NC Math 2 is one of the four required mathematics credits for high school graduation in North Carolina.
Proposed Legislative Changes: As of the 2025–2026 school year, legislative shifts (such as House Bill 415) have aimed to overhaul math sequences. For students who struggled in Math 1 (grade of C or lower), new "Extended Math" tracks (e.g., Extended Math 3 and 4) have been introduced as alternative pathways to satisfy the Math 2 graduation requirement.
Instructional Standards
Students are expected to master eight Standards for Mathematical Practice, which include making sense of problems, reasoning abstractly, constructing viable arguments, and modeling with mathematics. CMS emphasizes conceptual understanding and applying math in real-world contexts over rote memorization.

FAQ Section:
Is there a tutoring contract I have to sign? There is no contract. There is no obligation to continue. You pay month to month only. You can stop academic tutoring anytime.
How do you assess a student's current level? We do continuous assessments daily to determine the student’s skill level and gaps in knowledge, and we adjust each individual tutoring session to meet the students needs to get the academic results you want.
What kind of measurable results can I expect? One month of academic tutoring under the direction of Dr. Kevin L. Powell will result in a complete positive direction in your student’s math grades. For English Grammar, it will take approximately 90 days to see positive results because many students are several grade levels below the standards for reading comprehension and 6th Grade English Grammar.
How do you handle a student who "isn't getting it"? Your student will get extra 1 on 1 sessions and we make adjustments to our tutoring sessions. In addition, if permitted, we contact your student’s teacher’s to ensure a connection between the tutoring session and current needs in the classroom.
