Compare our Tutor Charlotte flat price $170.00 a month for 28 to 30 hours of tutoring to our competitor Huntington Learning Center. Their customer complained “They provide a diagnostic and then tell you they will need 80 sessions with your child, at $70-$85 per hour. I contracted for 20 sessions to see how it went before committing to more, then I was told they still need to "learn" my child. Ridiculous! My daughter was bored after 10 sessions, we stopped after 13 and I asked for a credit for the unused hours.”

Will the master tutor, Dr. Kevin L. Powell, contact my student’s teachers?
Yes, if given permission by a parent. I like to work closely with the student’s teacher in order to get the best result for your student. Click “Academic Permission Form” and print it out. Complete the form and give it to each teacher who should be contacted by the tutor.
Question: What is a typical Tutor Charlotte tutoring session like?
During the tutoring session, we ask the student the following questions and tutor what the student needs:
1. Do you have any homework that I can help you with today?
2. Do you have a quiz, test, or exam this week I can help you prepare for?
3. Do you need a lesson on a particular concept your teacher taught that you did not understand?
4. What did your Language Arts teacher, math teacher, and or science teacher teach you today?
Question: Do I need a desktop computer for my student?
Yes, your student must have access to the internet, speakers on their computer, and I recommend access to a working printer to printout academic work. I recommend a desktop computer over Ipads and other devices.
Do you do academic assessments of your students?
Yes, my students do continuous academic assessments in math and English grammar to determine the student’s skills in the subject being tutored. The continuous academic assessment allows us to adjust your student’s academic tutoring to fit their needs.
Question: Do you tutor ELA?
After a careful assessment of the student’s English grammar skills, the student is taught by the master tutor, Dr. Kevin L. Powell, using the Glencoe Language Arts English Grammar and Composition Handbook with complete assessment questions in each chapter based on the reading level of the student. In addition, the student will begin studying and incorporating 5,014 SAT vocabulary words for reading comprehension. The student is continuously tested to measure their academic progress. The student is taught English composition (writing and structure).
9th Grade English Grammar and Composition Handbook

Dr. Kevin L. Powell tutors and teaches mathematics, English Grammar, history, and science strictly from the textbooks.
Dear Parent(s), I hear you loud and clear about your students attending public schools, and I am here to help!
Parent’s Complaints about Instructional Disparity (AP/IB vs. Standard) at Myers Park High School.
Tiered Teacher Quality: A primary grievance is the perceived "gap" in teaching quality. Parents and students report that while AP and IB courses typically feature effective, experienced math instructors, standard-level classes often suffer from "uninvested" teachers who may lack proper qualifications or engagement.
Inconsistent Workloads: There are significant complaints that two students taking the same math course under different teachers can experience "vastly different workloads" and grading expectations, leading to an unfair academic environment.
Parent’s Complaints and Concerns About Math Teachers at Myers Park High School.
Perceived Incompetence: Some parents have labeled specific math instructors as "poorly qualified" or "completely incompetent," particularly in foundational courses like Algebra I and Geometry.
Lack of Support: Feedback indicates that some staff are "not welcoming or helpful," and in some cases, "borderline mean" to students who struggle with concepts.
Administrative Negligence: Parents have expressed frustration that administration is "negligent" when handling complaints about specific teachers, often ignoring reports of poor instruction or staff wrongdoing.
Parent’s Complaints about the Math Curriculum and Delivery at Myers Park High School.
Digital Over-Reliance: Like other CMS schools, parents at Myers Park are frustrated by the replacement of traditional textbooks with Chromebooks and "umpteen PDFs." They report that the lack of a single source of truth makes it difficult for parents to assist with homework.
"Discovery" Learning and YouTube: There is pushback against the heavy use of YouTube videos and "new math" methods that prioritize conceptual discovery over direct procedural instruction. Parents find it difficult to sit down with their children and reference established material to help them through roadblocks.
Standardized Test Performance: While overall proficiency is high (68% for some groups), there is concern that the curriculum is too focused on state standards that parents feel may not reflect real-world math skills or adequately prepare non-AP students for the SAT/ACT.
In 2026, the North Carolina Precalculus Curriculum serves as the critical bridge between the Math I–III sequence and college-level Calculus. For high-achieving students at schools like Ardrey Kell and Providence, this course is often taken as AP Precalculus, which follows the College Board standards alongside the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS).
1. Core Curriculum Strands (NCSCOS)
The 2026 Precalculus standards focus on advanced function analysis and rigorous mathematical modeling:
Trigonometric Functions (Advanced): Mastery of the unit circle, all six trigonometric functions, and their inverses. Students must prove and apply trigonometric identities (Pythagorean, Double Angle, Half Angle) and solve complex trigonometric equations.
Polynomial & Rational Functions: Deep analysis of graphs, including finding all real and complex zeros, determining end behavior, and identifying vertical, horizontal, and slant (oblique) asymptotes.
Exponential & Logarithmic Functions: Advanced application of log properties to solve growth/decay problems and modeling complex data sets using logarithmic regression.
Vectors & Parametric Equations: Introduction to vector arithmetic (magnitude, direction, dot product) and using parametric equations to model motion over time.
Conic Sections: Deriving and graphing equations for circles, ellipses, parabolas, and hyperbolas.
Matrices: Using matrices to solve systems of equations, including determinants, inverses, and Cramer’s Rule.
2. Key 2026 Standards for STEM Readiness
Mastery of these standards is essential for students entering AP Calculus BC or university-level engineering tracks:
PC.F.4.1: Use trigonometric identities to simplify expressions and solve equations.
PC.F.5.2: Use the Law of Sines and the Law of Cosines to solve problems in context.
PC.N.2.4: Represent and manipulate complex numbers in polar form.
PC.A.1.2: Use limits to describe the behavior of functions near boundaries and at infinity (the foundational concept for Calculus).
3. Assessment and 2026 High School Impact
No State EOC: Unlike Math I and Math III, North Carolina does not require a state End-of-Course (EOC) exam for Precalculus. However, most schools administer a rigorous Common Regional Final Exam or a teacher-made final that accounts for 20% of the grade.
AP Precalculus Exam: Students in the AP track will take the College Board AP Precalculus Exam in May 2026. This exam is highly valued by universities for awarding college credit.
Calculus Placement: For students at schools like Myers Park or Hough, Precalculus performance is the primary "gatekeeper" for placement into AP Calculus.
