Compare our Tutor Charlotte flat price $170.00 a month for 28 to 30 hours of tutoring to our competitor Huntington Learning Center. Their customer complained “They provide a diagnostic and then tell you they will need 80 sessions with your child, at $70-$85 per hour. I contracted for 20 sessions to see how it went before committing to more, then I was told they still need to "learn" my child. Ridiculous! My daughter was bored after 10 sessions, we stopped after 13 and I asked for a credit for the unused hours.”

Will the master tutor, Dr. Kevin L. Powell, contact my student’s teachers?

Yes, if given permission by a parent. I like to work closely with the student’s teacher in order to get the best result for your student. Click “Academic Permission Form” and print it out. Complete the form and give it to each teacher who should be contacted by the tutor.

Question: What is a typical Tutor Charlotte tutoring session like?

During the tutoring session, we ask the student the following questions and tutor what the student needs:

1. Do you have any homework that I can help you with today?

2. Do you have a quiz, test, or exam this week I can help you prepare for?

3. Do you need a lesson on a particular concept your teacher taught that you did not understand?

4. What did your Language Arts teacher, math teacher, and or science teacher teach you today?

Question: Do I need a desktop computer for my student?

Yes, your student must have access to the internet, speakers on their computer, and I recommend access to a working printer to printout academic work. I recommend a desktop computer over Ipads and other devices.

Do you do academic assessments of your students?

Yes, my students do continuous academic assessments in math and English grammar to determine the student’s skills in the subject being tutored. The continuous academic assessment allows us to adjust your student’s academic tutoring to fit their needs.

Question: Do you tutor ELA?

After a careful assessment of the student’s English grammar skills, the student is taught by the master tutor, Dr. Kevin L. Powell, using the Glencoe Language Arts English Grammar and Composition Handbook with complete assessment questions in each chapter based on the reading level of the student. In addition, the student will begin studying and incorporating 5,014 SAT vocabulary words for reading comprehension. The student is continuously tested to measure their academic progress. The student is taught English composition (writing and structure).

  • 9th Grade English Grammar and Composition Handbook

  • 10th Grade English Grammar and Composition Handbook

  • 11th Grade English Grammar and Composition Handbook

  • 12th Grade English Grammar and Composition Handbook

Dr. Kevin L. Powell tutors and teaches mathematics, English Grammar, history, and science strictly from the textbooks.

Dear Parent(s), I hear you loud and clear about your students attending public schools, and I am here to help!

Concerns About Math Instruction and Teacher Support

  • Instructional Style Gaps: A significant recurring complaint is that some math teachers cater primarily to students who "catch on quick" and lack patience or effective strategies for those who struggle.

  • "Sink or Swim" Mentality: Parents report a lack of proactive help, noting that even when students attend tutoring or seek clarification, some teachers are unwilling to "work with" the student if they don't grasp the information immediately.

  • Apathy and Disengagement: Feedback includes observations of teachers appearing "demoralized" or "unsupported," which some parents believe leads to disengaged instruction where students are left to "stare into space" during class.

Math Curriculum and Academic Pressure

  • Extreme Workload: The intense academic standard at Providence is a double-edged sword. Parents complain that the "useless work" and heavy homework loads lead to a "troubling lack of sleep" and prevent students from pursuing extracurricular activities.

  • College-Level Intensity in High School: While the curriculum is praised for college preparation, parents feel the pace is sometimes too fast, leaving students with "very little time" to actually master the underlying concepts before moving to the next topic.

  • Discovery Learning Challenges: Similar to other high-performing CMS schools, there is tension regarding the "problem-based" or discovery learning approach (Open Up Resources), where students are expected to figure out math concepts themselves rather than receiving direct instruction.

The North Carolina Math III Curriculum for 2026 is the final course in the state’s integrated mathematics sequence and is a primary graduation requirement. It is a "heavy" course that bridges the gap between basic algebra and Precalculus, focusing on higher-level modeling and complex function analysis.

1. Core Curriculum Strands (NCSCOS)

In 2026, the Math III Standard Course of Study is centered on several advanced mathematical domains:

  • Polynomial, Rational, and Radical Functions: Students extend their knowledge of quadratics to include polynomials of higher degrees. This includes the Remainder Theorem, identifying zeros, and understanding the end behavior of graphs.

  • Exponential and Logarithmic Functions: A major component of Math III. Students learn to solve exponential equations using logarithms and model real-world growth and decay.

  • Trigonometry (The Unit Circle): Math III moves beyond right triangles and introduces the Unit Circle, radian measure, and the graphing of trigonometric functions (Sine and Cosine), including their amplitude, period, and phase shifts.

  • Geometry (Circles and 3D Shapes): Focuses on the properties of circles (arcs, chords, tangents, and angles), deriving the equation of a circle, and calculating volumes of complex three-dimensional solids.

  • Statistics and Probability: Focuses on the process of making inferences and justifying conclusions from sample surveys, experiments, and observational studies.

2. Key 2026 Standards for High School Mastery

These are the standards most frequently targeted by Tutor Charlotte Program II for high-achieving students:

  • NC.M3.A-APR.2: Understand and apply the Remainder Theorem to find the zeros of a polynomial.

  • NC.M3.F-LE.4: Use logarithms to solve exponential equations.

  • NC.M3.G-C.2: Understand and apply theorems about relationships among inscribed angles, radii, and chords of a circle.

  • NC.M3.F-TF.5: Use trigonometric functions to model periodic phenomena with specified amplitude, frequency, and midline.

3. Assessment and 2026 Graduation Updates

  • End-of-Course (EOC) Exam: All NC students in 2026 are required to take the Math III EOC, which accounts for 20% of their final grade. This is a rigorous exam with calculator-active and inactive sections.

  • Graduation Requirement Changes: While there was a legislative debate in 2025 regarding Math III as a graduation requirement, as of January 2026, it remains the standard requirement for college-bound students in North Carolina.

  • Pathways to Calculus: Mastery of Math III is the prerequisite for entering AP Precalculus or AP Calculus BC. Gaps in Math III mastery are the leading cause of difficulty in college STEM tracks.
